JULY 3, 2024:
A driver from Boones Mill, Virginia, was the driver who fell victim to the train viaduct bridge in Pierre late Friday morning (June 28, 2024, 11:25am).
Information from the Pierre Police Department says Andrew Chriscoe, Jr. was traveling northbound on Pierre Street in a 2024 Kenworth semi pulling a trailer loaded with over 40,000 pounds of salt just before 11:30am CT. The trailer exceeded the 11’ 3” height limit and ultimately got stuck, causing extensive damage to the trailer. Another truck and trailer were called to the scene to transfer the salt before the truck and trailer could be moved.
Officers had to shut down northbound traffic on Pierre Street for about six hours while crews worked to remove the truck and trailer. Chriscoe was given a verbal warnings for the truck route and failure to obey a traffic signal violations.
As usual, there was no apparent damage to Pierre’s infamous train bridge.
JUNE 28, 2024:
A semi is the latest victim of Pierre’s low-clearance train bridge near the Pierre Street and Sioux Avenue intersection. The accident occurred around 12:00 PM today (June 28, 2024) and shut down the intersection for two-plus hours. The attached trailer exceeded the 11-foot, 3-inch height limit for the bridge and ultimately struck the bridge causing damage to the roof of the trailer. There was no apparent damage to the train bridge. Further information will be forthcoming.
