Winner-Colome and Garretson each won their second-round Class B games Wednesday night in South Dakota’s 92nd amateur baseball tournament.
Winner-Colome improved to an impressive 22-1 on the season with a 5-2 win over Mount Vernon in Wednesday’s first game. Derek Graesser recorded seven strikeouts while only surrendering five hits to send the Pheasants into the quarterfinals. Garetson followed suit by rallying for a 12-4 win over Four Corners. Garretson was down early 4-1 and had to deal with a rain delay before coming back on back Four Corners. Dustin Steckler got the win on the mound throwing 6 1/3 innings of shutout relief, recording 11 strikeouts.
Quarterfinal games in Class B open on Thursday with Larchwood (Iowa) taking on Dimock-Emery at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Hartford-Humboldt Wood Ducks facing off with Platte at 7:30 p.m.
Garretson and Winner-Colome will square off in the quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
