The South Dakota Department of Corrections says a high risk offender has completed his prison sentence and has been released in the Rapid City area.
34 year old Cory Yellow Boy was released from prison August 15, 2024, after serving his sentences for eluding a police officer, sex offender failure to update address, and possession of a controlled substance. Yellow Boy is a registered sex offender, but because he served all of his time, he is not on parole or any type of supervised release.
Secretary of Corrections Kellie Wasko says institutional assessments and his criminal history indicate there’s a high risk Yellow Boy will reoffend. She said law enforcement has also been alerted about the offender’s release from prison.
Yellow Boy is Native American, 5-feet-5-inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.
Wasko says these notifications are in addition to the letters sent to law enforcement and notices provided to the state Division of Criminal Investigation each month. She says since 2011, the Department of Corrections has issued a total of 14 public notices of pending high risk offender releases.
