OCTOBER 3, 2024:
Entries are coming in and horses are arriving at the track for the 76th annual horse races this weekend (Oct. 5-6, 2024) at the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre.
Shane Kramme with the Verendrye Benevolent Association says there are races for both Quarter Horses and Throughbreds.
Kramme says these races provide some financial incentive for people to continue breeding, training and racing horses in South Dakota.
Kramme says the horse races are a fun, family friendly social event with much thanks to support from around 100 area sponsors.
Gates will open about 11am CT on both Saturday and Sunday, with races scheduled to start at 1pm CT.
Admission is $5 for adults. Ages 16 years and under are admitted free of charge.
No coolers allowed. Concessions will be available under the grandstand.

JUNE 27, 2024:
The South Dakota Commission on Gaming has approved the Verendrye Benovolent Association’s request to hold horse races Oct. 5 and 6, 2024, at the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre.
Track Manager Shane Kramme says it’ll be another showcase of the horse racing talent that’s raised in and around South Dakota.
Kramme says unfortunately, the way horse racing is being funded in South Dakota has decreased drastically over the years.
Prior to the races starting and between races, Kramme says there’s plenty to do under the grandstand.
This (2024) will be the 76th year of horse races being held in Fort Pierre.
