OCTOBER 10, 2024:
South Dakota high school students interested in serving as pages for the 100th Session of the state legislature have until Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, to turn in their application.
The 100th South Dakota Legislative Session runs from January 14, 2025, to March 31, 2025, with a recess from March 14-28. Juniors and seniors from any school district in the state, including home-schooled students, are eligible to apply. The session is broken down into five parts with each page being in Pierre for approximately the same amount of time.
To apply, the student must have signed sponsorship approval by a current legislator, as well as written permission from their school. They must also submit a completed application– available on the Legislative Research Council’s website— and a cover letter. While serving as pages, students are housed in family homes in Pierre and Fort Pierre.
Pages earn $55 for each legislative day they work. They are appointed to serve in either the House of Representatives or the Senate and are assigned to committee meetings in the mornings and Chamber floor sessions in the afternoons. They also assist in the Legislative Post Office; help legislators, as needed; and participate in scheduled social events, including a meeting with the Governor.
Students wanting more information should contact the Legislative Research Council at:
