HURON, S.D. – The Pierre Governor cross country teams competed in the ESD Conference Meet on Saturday and final results had the boys team finishing fifth out of ten teams, while the girls squad took third place in their ranks. Aberdeen Central earned the conference team title in the boys race with 51 placing points, eight points better than Brookings with 59. Brandon Valley scored 69 points to take third, as they were led by the overall individual medalist Mikah Peters, who finished the 5,000 meter course in a time of 15:32.84. Caleb Morris led the Governors with a fifth place finish at 16:07.22, while Jayden Brandt came in 25th at 17:17.36. In the girls race Harrisburg took the team title, led by the top two individual runners, and totaled 29 points. Brandon Valley took second with 48 and Pierre came in third with 92. Brianna Reilly of Harrisburg was the medalist at 17:10.36 while Emery Larson ran Pierre’s best time of 18:24.15 to finish fourth individually. Gwen Richter placed 16th while Harper Shaffer and Charlee Williams-Smith also finished in the top 25. Pierre’s next event will take them back to the same course for the Huron Invitational on Thursday with the State Cross Country Meet scheduled for October 26th at Rapid City’s Hart Ranch.
