The South Dakota Unified Judicial System has issued its FY2024 Annual Report, covering the work done by the state Supreme Court, circuit courts, magistrate courts and the State Court Administrator’s Office.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Steven Jensen says the report provides tables and graphs to show a comprehensive overview of the past year’s court activities (between July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024). He says the focus of UJS remains on ensuring that every person who interacts with the South Dakota court system receives fair treatment and the respect they deserve.
The circuit courts, which includes the magistrate courts, are the state’s trial courts where criminal proceedings and civil litigation are handled. The State Court Administrator’s Office provides centralized administrative assistance and support services for the South Dakota judiciary. The Supreme Court is the state’s highest court and final decision maker on South Dakota law.
