An ethanol plant in Edmunds County is among South Dakota’s latest recipients of funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Energy for America Program.
Through the REAP program, Rural Development State Director for South Dakota Nikki Gronli says USDA is partnering with farmers and small businesses to expand access to clean energy and to lower energy bills. She says on top of lowering costs for businesses, “it’s creating jobs and combating climate change. That’s a win-win.”
Aberdeen Energy LLC will receive $1 million to expand its ethanol production system near Mina in Edmunds County. The project is expected to generate nearly 179 billion (178,898,009) kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which is enough to power 16,508 homes.
This round of Rural Development investments in South Dakota totals more than $1.8 million through 10 projects.
