Rivalry football is always different for the teams on the field and the fanbases in the stands. It’s the game you circle on your schedule each year because your season isn’t truly successful if you don’t beat “them”. I went to Alabama and our rival is auburn. They can lose every game one through eleven by 100 points each, but if they find a way to beat Alabama you would think they won the National Championship.
Tonight we were gifted with the latest edition of South Dakota State versus South Dakota. Not only is this a meaningful game because of the history of these two programs, but this game had major conference standings implications. It was a low scoring battle, but 60 minutes was not enough as this game needed overtime.
South Dakota was unable to find the end zone on their first OT possession and had to settle for a field goal. When the Jackrabbits got their chance to score they ran right at the Coyotes until Amar Johnson powered his way in to give SDSU the 20-17 victory. Both teams now sit at 6-2 on the season, SDSU 3-1 in the conference, USD 4-1.
SDSU takes on Murray St. on 11/2 at 2:00 PM CT. USD will get their bye and then have Indiana St. on 11/9.
