One person died and another was seriously injured Wednesday evening (Nov. 6, 2024, 6:29pm) in a two-vehicle crash two miles west of Rapid City.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates 44 year old Dustin Shawn Walz was the driver of a 2007 Mazda 3 was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 near mile marker 53. James Mark Cunningham– also from Rapid City– was the 56 year old driver of a 2001 Ford F350 traveling westbound in the same lane when the Mazda collided with the Ford head-on.
The driver of the Mazda died at the scene. The driver of the Ford sustained serious, life-threatening injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
