The South Dakota National Guard will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Dean Mann Readiness Center (4417 N. Bahnson Avenue in Sioux Falls) on Nov. 13, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.
The Readiness Center is named after long-time Sioux Falls resident, teacher, and coach, Brig. Gen. (Ret) Dean Mann. Mann served 33 years in the SDNG and retired after serving as the Assistant Adjutant General – Army from September 1980 to October 1982.
The 41,600 square foot facility has the capacity to house more than 200 Soldiers to enhance training and readiness. The Dean Mann Readiness Center is a state of- the art facility designed to meet the ‘Silver’ criteria for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). It is the world’s most widely used green building rating system. LEED certification provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings, which offer environmental, social and governance benefits.
Before his passing on July 31, 2024, Mann helped with the intimate groundbreaking ceremony for the readiness center and was routinely at the construction site and witnessed its rise from an empty field to a state-of-the-art facility for the training, administrative, and logistical requirements of SDNG units.
Governor Kristi Noem, Maj. Gen. (SD) Mark Morrell, area legislators, and local chamber members will be in attendance for the event.
