One of the most hyped boxing matches of all time was a complete dud, as many expected.
58-year-old Mike Tyson never got out of first gear, and 27-year-old Jake Paul was either unwilling or unable to finish an opponent more than twice his age. The “fight” went the full eight rounds, with Paul winning by unanimous decision.
It seemed like Tyson spent more time biting his gloves than he did throwing punches. He later admitted he has, quote, “a biting fixation.”
After the fight, Tyson Tweeted that he’s actually lucky he made it to bell time alive. Quote, “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time.
“I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25 pounds in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.”
He called the fight, quote, “an experience that no man has the right to ask for.”
In a post-fight interview, Paul said he took his foot off the gas in the later rounds. Quote, “I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn’t want to hurt someone who didn’t need to be hurt.”
He added that he didn’t feel much power in any of Tyson’s punches.
An estimated 60 million people watched the fight . . . or TRIED to. For many, the entire card was ruined by constant freezing and buffering.
Hashtags like “NetflixBroken”, “unwatchable”, and “buffering” were all trending.
But for all its faults, at least this fight left us with the lasting image of Mike Tyson’s BARE BUTT as he walked away from a pre-fight interview.
