At their Tuesday, November 19th, regular meeting, the Walworth County Commission discussed county liquor licenses and will add the issue to the next agenda to act on charging $1500 for a new liquor license.
The commission discussed a plan for selling tax certificates. They will ask the States Attorney to look into options for charging interest on past due amounts.
Emergency Manager
The commissioners passed a motion to accept a written drone policy that has been reviewed and approved by both the States Attorney and the South Dakota Municipal League.
Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen has passed a drone pilot test. Jensen would like to move forward with ordering a drone before the end of the year.
Highway
The commission approved the December 2023 version of the Master Transportation Plan. Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan said the plan is a guideline.
Hannan also told the commissioners he went to Strasburg to look at a 2010 Ford F350 with 38,000 miles for the highway department. The board gave their approval to purchase it at a cost of $26,500.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting:
- monthly reports were presented from the Auditor’s office, Register of Deeds, Landfill, and the Sheriff’s transports over the past 3 months;
- three tax deed properties will be advertised to be auctioned off at 10am on December 11th;
- the commissioners approved several contingency and cash transfers for 2024;
- and they passed a motion to moved forward on repairs of the courthouse chair lift due to rising costs on the work involved.
The commissioners set their next meeting dates for December 10th and 31st.
