HENRY, S.D.–The Henry School Board held a special meeting Monday night, and on the agenda was a community discussion about the future of the school district’s athletics programs.
Henry has been partnering with the Florence School District to field athletic teams for a number of years, but the Florence School Board recently voted to end that co-op agreement.
Henry Superintendent Todd Obele says no decisions were made on the future of Henry athletics, but the meeting was a chance to, “get input on what the school district should do moving forward.”
Obele says there are opportunities to create new partnerships with neighboring school districts, although he did not identify any potential new co-op partners by name, saying it’s too early in the process.
He says with a smaller enrollment, it would be more beneficial for Henry to create a new co-op going forward.
Obele says it’s, “questionable” as to whether Henry would have enough students to participate in sports as a stand-alone district.
