The Pierre Governors ran their dual record to 3-0 on the young season with a 57-22 win at Harrisburg Thursday night. The Govs won ten of 14 weight classes scoring maximum points in nine of them with eight wins by fall and one forfeit victory. Pins were registered by Walker West, Rowdy Menning, Tallen Lightfield, Lincoln Schoenhard (in overtime), Max Hunsley, Will Eilers, Sam Larson and Elijah Boutchee, some of which came in exciting come-from-behind fashion. Head coach Shawn Lewis was pleased with a “very good performance heading into (the holiday) break.” The Governors have a very young lineup this season, but the coach says that kids are “progressing down to their weight classes and we seem to be getting better every time we step on the mat.” Pierre is off now until they host Huron on Jan. 2, which is also the next time the Governor girls will take to the mat. The girls did not wrestle Harrisburg last night; instead a girls-only dual with the Tigers is scheduled for Jan. 10 in Pierre. And one other scheduling note, the Governors dual with Aberdeen that was postponed due to weather this past Tuesday has been rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9, with both girls and boys competing, beginning at 5:00.
