The Pierre City Commission has approved (Dec. 30, 2024) a request to purchase new flooring for the men’s and women’s restrooms at the new Pierre Outdoor Pool.
City Project Manager Gidget Palmer says the original flooring is already coming apart.
Palmer says the City will get a credit from the contractor to help pay for this new flooring system because the original floor performed poorly. But, she says, there will still be some additional cost.
The Pierre outdoor pool opened its doors for the first time Memorial Day 2024. During the outdoor swim season, an average of 500 people visited the pool each day. According to a recap of a September (Sept. 19, 2024) Pierre Park and Recreation Board meeting, total attendance at the pool from May to September was 49,798. A total of 14,470 daily passes were sold throughout the season (this includes over 48” in height, under 48” in height or under 3 years old).
The Pierre Outdoor Pool complex features 19,000 square feet of water surface including a lazy river, two pools, three slides, a high dive and expanded concessions.
WRITTEN VERSION:
The Pierre City Commission has approved (Dec. 30, 2024) a request to purchase new flooring for the men’s and women’s restrooms at the new Pierre Outdoor Pool.
“The original flooring we installed last year isn’t performing well,” said Bryan Tipton, City Parks and Recreation Director. “It’s slippery and flaking off in high-traffic areas. We’ll receive a credit from the contractor because the original floor performed poorly, and we’ll use that credit to help pay for this new flooring system.”
To correct the issue, the city is replacing it with a low-maintenance, watertight, slip-resistant, anti-fungal floor.
According to Gidget Palmer, City Project Manager, the company providing the flooring, RenoSys, will also install the floor.
“The installation will happen this spring. Per the contract, it must be installed before we open the pool in May,” said Palmer.
