Two of the premier basketball programs in the state faced off last night, and it carried a bit of history with it. In game one, it was a battle for first place in 6 A as the Tigers came out blazing and looked like they might control it wire-to-wire taking a 22-8 lead into the half. But Miller came out on a mission in the second half winning the third quarter 16-4 to cut it to a 3-point deficit setting up an exciting final period. It was a back and forth fourth quarter, but the Lady Tigers held off the Rustlers to secure the 45-40 win to move to 7-1. Blake Thompson was named the Player of the Game with 17-points. For Miller, the senior Morgan Kolda had 16-points, but it would still end up being their first loss of the season, falling to 5-1.
Game two of the night was just as exciting as the boys were tied up from the tip, Miller taking a 26-23 lead into the half thanks to a half-court buzzer beater from Isaac Hunter. The Tigers would knot things up momentarily at 37, but the Rustlers kept making shots and would create more cushion for themselves again and go on to win 51-46. This was a big win for the Rustlers and their season to move to 3-3 on the season and stay in the hunt of 6 A. Isaac Hunter had the game of the night for Miller, scoring 28-points including that half-court buzzer beater to end the first half. This was the 104th all-time matchup between Miller and Mobridge-Pollock boys, and with the win, the series falls back to an even 52-52. That’s how you keep a rivalry alive.
