Fort Pierre’s general sales tax revenue in December 2024 was 0.19% higher than what was collected that same month in 2023.
City Finance Officer Roxanne Heezen says the general sales tax collections for all of 2024 was also higher than the previous year.

Audio PlayerAs to why the occupancy tax collections are down, Fort Pierre city officials can only speculate. One thought is an increase in the number of long-term stays. Any guest staying for 28 or more consecutive days are exempt from paying all taxes, including the occupancy tax.
