Fort Pierre annual tax collections mixed in 2024

February 19, 2025:

Fort Pierre’s general sales tax revenue in December 2024 was 0.19% higher than what was collected that same month in 2023.

City Finance Officer Roxanne Heezen says the general sales tax collections for all of 2024 was also higher than the previous year.

Heezen says Fort Pierre’s “triple B”– or bed, board and booze tax– finished the month and the year higher than in 2023.

Fort Pierre’s fourth quarter BBB tax collection was roughly 1.4% lower than in that same quarter in 2023, while the fourth quarter general sales tax revenue was nearly 11% higher than the previous year.

January 24, 2025:

Fort Pierre’s tax collections in two major categories were down for the month of November 2024.

City Finance Officer Roxanne Heezen says total general sales tax was up and the “triple B”– or bed, board and booze tax– and occupancy tax revenues were lower.

Fort Pierre’s occupancy tax revenue in November was 6.32% lower than in 2023. Year-to-date, Heezen says occupancy tax revenue is 5.99% lower than it was in 2023.

NOVEMBER 26, 2024:

Fort Pierre’s tax collections in two major categories were up for the month of September 2024.

City Finance Officer Roxanne Heezen says total general sales tax and “triple B”– or bed, board and booze tax– revenues are both up.

For the third quarter, Fort Pierre’s sales and use tax revenue is up just shy of 20% (19.83%) and the BBB tax is up a little over 16.5% (16.61%).

MAY 9, 2024:

Tax collections in two of the three major categories were up for the month of March 2024 in Fort Pierre.

City Finance Officer Roxanne Heezen says total general sales tax and “triple B”– or bed, board and booze tax– revenue are both up.

Heezen says total occupancy tax collections so far are behind 2023.

As to why the occupancy tax collections are down, Fort Pierre city officials can only speculate. One thought is an increase in the number of long-term stays. Any guest staying for 28 or more consecutive days are exempt from paying all taxes, including the occupancy tax.

Tax collections in all three major categories were up for the month of February 2024 in Fort Pierre, but two categories are running behind last year’s numbers.

Heezen says the total “triple B”– or bed, board and booze tax– is down about .5% for the year.

Heezen says total occupancy tax collections so far are about 5% behind 2023.

Tax collections in all three major categories were lower for the City of Fort Pierre during January 2024.

City Finance Officer Roxanne Heezen says the general sales tax revenue was down, but in line with the number from 2022.

Heezen says “triple B”– or bed, board and booze tax– and occupancy tax collections also decreased.
