January 30, 2025:
The South Dakota National Guard would like to thank our law enforcement community for their dedication and support of the vandalism and theft incident at the Watertown Readiness Center on November 8, 2024, that recently led to an arrest and recovery of some items.
The SDNG is committed to allowing a fair legal process and will not comment on active investigations. The state’s attorney will handle the prosecution decisions.
“The safety and security of our team, equipment, and facilities are our top priority, and we will not tolerate any behavior that compromises these values,” stated Maj. Gen. (SD) Morrell, SDNG Adjutant General. “We appreciate the hard work of the Watertown and Milbank Police Departments and the SD DCI.”
January 29, 2025:
Watertown police have announced an arrest in a burglary that dates back to early November at Watertown’s National Guard Readiness Center along Highway 20.
Law enforcement was called to the facility Nov. 8, 2024, and found forced entry and intentional damage to property in two buildings. Watertown police, in partnership with South Dakota National Guard personnel, determined more than $52,000 damage was caused, and more than $8,000 worth of property had been stolen.
Watertown Police Captain Steve Rehorst says over the next several weeks, authorities identified Kyle Miles-O’Farrell of Milbank as their suspect. This week, investigators with South Dakota DCI executed a search warrant and issued an arrest warrant for O’Farrell. More than $4,000 worth of property was recovered.
O’Farrell is charged with First Degree Burglary, Grand Theft and Intentional Damage to Property. He’s being held in the Codington County Detention Center on $25,000 cash bond.
Watertown and Milbank police, South Dakota DCI and National Guard personnel were all involved in the investigation.
