Playing back at home for the first time in weeks, Mobridge-Pollock basketball gave their fans plenty to cheer about Friday night with two wins over the Chamberlain Cubs. The Lady Tigers won their sixth game in a row, in a 73-27 dismantling. Just minutes into the contest, Mobridge-Pollock was ahead 15-3 and drew a Chamberlain timeout. By the end of the first, the score was 26-5. The Cubs found some offense to start the second half, but were held to just 1 point in the fourth quarter. Junior Jayda Thompson went on a tear near the end of the game with steals and quick scores. She finished with 11 points, which tied a season high and earned player of the game. Lady Tigers improved to 11-1 with the win, and head to Sioux Falls to play defending class-B champion Centerville on Saturday.
The Mobridge-Pollock boys squad overcame some early challenges to defeat the Cubs in blowout fashion as well, 72-43. The game was scoreless nearly two minutes into the opening quarter, and Chamberlain held a two-point lead by the end of the period. The Tigers found some momentum shortly after that, outscoring the Cubs 17-4 in the second quarter to take an 11-point halftime advantage. The time in the locker room was not enough to cool Mobridge-Pollock off, as they exploded for 23 more points in the third quarter. They were able to empty their bench in the fourth, and cruise to victory. The boys squad picked up their third straight win, and keeps pace in the regional race at 8-3. Despite not playing in the first quarter, sophomore Shooter Frederick scored a season-high 24 points. Also, with only one three-pointer to senior Shane Henderson’s name through his first 10 games, the big man splashed three from behind the arc on Friday. The win for the Tigers sets up a highly consequential rivalry meeting with Cheyenne-Eagle Butte next Tuesday night.
