ROSÉ sat down with The Cut to discuss her experience in stepping back into her solo career, and the smashing success of her Bruno Mars assisted duet, APT.
The Aussie-Korean singer and dancer debuted under YG entertainment as a member of the K-Pop girl group BLACKPINK in 2016.
Since BLACKPINK’s debut, the group have been dominating the world of K-pop and beyond. In 2019, they became the first K-pop performers to grace the stage at Coachella. Four years later, they became the first Asian act to headline the same festival. In fact, BLACKPINK’s 2023 Coachella performance was so good, festivalgoers dubbed the event “PINKchella”, and shortly thereafter the group’s success grew even more in the United States.
Following BLACKPINK’s successful 2023 world tour, JENNIE, JISOO, LISA, and ROSÉ decided to take the next year to focus on their solo careers.
However, it seems BLACKPINK have big plans for 2025! Earlier this month, the group revealed plans for a comeback world tour. ROSÉ confirmed this with The Cut, adding that fans can expect to hear brand new music from the band.
It is not clear when we can expect to hear new BLACKPINK songs, but we do know that the tour starts in July, so it’s a safe bet it’ll be in the next few months.
It’s also likely the group will be performing their solo hits on this tour, as they have all released solo music in their time off.
ROSÉ spent most of her 2024 working on her debut solo album, rosie. The leading single off of this album was a track titled APT., an unbelievably catchy tune, featuring Bruno Mars, about a South Korean drinking game.
In the mere month’s following APT.‘s release, the music video amassed a BILLION views on YouTube, and the song over a BILLION streams on Spotify.
In regards to collaborating with Bruno Mars, the singer had this to say about the Grammy-winning-artist, “Bruno showed me that, as a creative, you have to listen to your intuition and your timing, and you’re allowed to trust in it,” she says. “I’ve become more confident in what feels right to me and in doing whatever it takes to have that come to life.”
