If you’ve taken some photos showing the weather conditions in the past week, the Aberdeen National Weather Service office invites you to submit them to their photo contest.
Pictures must have been taken between Feb. 18, 2025, and today (Feb. 24, 2025) in central or northeast South Dakota or western Minnesota.
February 18, 2025:
A piece of the polar vortex that typically holds arctic air around the North Pole has broken off and moved south, causing unseasonably cold temperatures in part of the United States and Europe this week.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Megan Mulford reviews some of the low temperatures recorded in the Pierre/Fort Pierre area since the cold moved in.
Audio PlayerMulford says some record or near record lows were recorded around South Dakota Monday night (Feb. 17, 2025) into Tuesday morning.
