The Sioux Falls Jefferson Cavaliers got off to a fast start and never seemed to cool down as they went on for a 78-64 win over the Pierre Governors in boys basketball Tuesday night. Jefferson hit ten of 13 shots, including four of six from 3-point range, to open up a 26-15 lead after just one quarter of play. They extended that lead to 44-26 at halftime shooting better than 70 percent at the time. The Cavs eventually built their biggest lead to 20 in the third period before the Govs found some momentum in the fourth, but they couldn’t get any closer than ten as they fell to 6-12 on the season. Kuai Mayen scored 17 and Jase Unzen 16, including four treys, to lead Jefferson who improves to 8-10. In fact, all five Cavalier starters hit double-digits in the win. Dawson Getz and Luke Olson each led Pierre with 19 points on a good offensive night for the Govs, but they just couldn’t stop the Cavs, who were still better than 60 percent from the field over the full 32 minutes. Pierre closes their regular season with two games this weekend, Friday night in their season home finale against Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Saturday afternoon at Watertown.
