A traditional in-person Hunter Safety and Firearms Education (HuntSAFE) class begins next week in Pierre.
Classes will be held Monday (March 17, 2025), Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8:30pm at the Izaak Walton League Clubhouse in Pierre. Class continues Saturday, March 22 from 8-11am at the Oahe Downstream Recreation Area Shooting Range. Attendance is required at all sessions.
Additionally, a Field Day for the Online Independence Study HuntSAFE course will be held on March 22 at the Oahe Downstream Recreation Area Shooting Range from 8-11:30am. The online course work must be completed prior to the field day.
All young people between the ages of 12 and 16, as well as those who will turn 12 by Dec. 31 and who will hunt after Sept. 1, 2025, are required to successfully complete a HuntSAFE class and possess a HuntSAFE card while hunting.
Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. People wanting to brush up on their safe hunting skills are also encouraged to attend.
