The Players Championship got through all 72 holes as they hoped yesterday despite a long weather delay in the middle of the final round. However, they still weren’t able to finish the tournament because JJ Spaun and Rory McIlroy still sit tied atop the leaderboard at 12 under par.
Spaun had a chance to win last night after hitting a gorgeous shot from the pine straw on the difficult 18th hole. He left himself with around 20 feet for birdie which would have thrust him past McIlroy, but he left his put about two-inches short and the playoff was set.
The Players has a different playoff system than most, instead of just one sudden death hole, they institute a three-hole aggregate playoff that could not be completed last night with waning sunlight. So they will play it this morning in about an hour.
The Spaun-McIlroy playoff will be held at 8 AM CT on Golf Channel today to decide who will be the 51st Champion, stay tuned for the results
