As part of National Agriculture Week this week (March 19, 2025), around 200 4th grade students from Pierre, Stanley County and Agar-Blunt-Onida got to experience some of South Dakota’s agriculture sectors up close during a field day event hosted by the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce Agri-Interest Committee.
Quinn Anderson, a 6th grader at Georgia Morse Middle School in Pierre, was a co-presenter at a station covering cattle and beef. She said the students had a lot of questions.
Anderson talked about products that can be made using the various parts of beef cattle, with some being more surprising to the students than others.
Along with cattle, the students rotated through stations covering pigs, grain safety, machinery safety, electrical safety and pollinators, conservation and wildlife. The students also received packets of agriculture-focused information to take home.
