Pierre, S.D. – The South Dakota Golf Course Superintendent Association (SDGCSA) has recognized Pierre Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Tipton and Hillsview Golf Course Superintendent Jordan Steiner for their contributions to golf course management in South Dakota.
Tipton received the 2024 Professional Service Award. The award is given to someone who has shown dedication to the industry through education, experience, and involvement with the SDGCSA. Prior to becoming the City Parks and Recreation Director, Tipton served as the Superintendent of Hillsview Golf Course, the city-owned course. In total, Tipton has more than 20 years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent for both private and public courses and has been a Certified Golf Course Superintendent for 21 years.
Steiner received the 2024 Young Professional Award. This award is also given to someone who has shown a commitment to the industry through education, experience, and involvement with the association. Steiner has served as the Hillsview Golf Course Superintendent for the past three years. Prior to that, Steiner worked for the Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort and in the Senior Golf Course Maintenance position at Hillsview.
Both men were nominated for the awards by Jason Gunnare, Superintendent of Mitchell Lakeview Golf Course.
“A nomination from another South Dakota superintendent really demonstrates how well both Tipton and Steiner are regarded among their peers and is an indicator of what a top-notch team we have running our golf course,” said Pierre Mayor Steve Harding.
Harding, an avid golfer, went on to say he’s lived near Hillsview Golf Course for many years and sees the late nights and early mornings both men have put in to make Hillsview a great course.
The SDGCSA also inducted Dean Heymans into its Hall of Fame this year. Heymans worked at Hillsview Golf Course for 40 years.
The SDGCSA assists its members in advancing their knowledge of the profession, recognizing their achievements, and enhancing the vitality of the game of golf.
