Two South Dakota school districts have been awarded grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service.
Woonsocket School District will receive $25,000, and Aberdeen School District will receive $8,832.44, in National School Lunch Program Equipment Assistance grants to purchase food service equipment. The goal of the grant program is to help schools serve healthier meals, improve food safety, and support the School Breakfast Program.
“A well-rounded school meal program can be a vital contributor to a school’s success. These grants will help the Aberdeen and Woonsocket school districts make kitchen upgrades that ultimately benefit students and staff,” said George Seamon, interim director of the Department of Education’s Child and Adult Nutrition Services.
The funds were provided by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, which allotted $10 million to organizations that participate in the National School Lunch Program.
