Brookings middle schooler wins South Dakota Spelling Bee

A 14 year old student from George S. Mickelson Middle School in Brookings is the state’s top-speller.

Amanuel Gemichis out-spelled 27 other contestants Saturday (March 29, 2025) to win the South Dakota Spelling Bee at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell. He said he’s been involved in spelling since the fourth grade.
