With seven games left in the regular season, the Wild are in a fight for their playoff lives while trying to either secure a Wild Card spot or sneak in the back door of the Central division (not likely, but mathematically possible). However, the New Jersey Devils delivered two big blows to those hopes over the last few days. The Wild currently sit in the 1st Wild Card slot, one-point ahead of the St. Louis Blues, and six-points behind the Colorado Avalanche who hold the 3-spot of the Central division. It’s crunch time for the Wild, and they just suffered pretty important back-to-back losses to the Devils. These losses make the Wild 1-4 in their last five, not exactly the way you wish to close out a season with the postseason on the line.
Last night’s loss was especially heartbreaking for Minnesota, as it came in shootout fashion against the Devils who thumped them on Saturday by a score of 5-2. The Wild now look ahead to their final 7 regular season games, four of which are on the road, and hope not to give up that playoff spot. It is really the Wild’s spot to lose, but as I learn Minnesota sports I know nothing is set in stone.
The Wild take on the Rangers tomorrow (4/2) at 6:00 PM CT.
