Abel Tesfaye released his third and final album as The Weeknd back in January, but we haven’t seen the last of his alter ego.
Early this year, The Weeknd released “Hurry Up Tomorrow”, his third studio album. The singer confirmed this would be the end of “The Weeknd”, suggesting he will drop the stage name from now on. Some speculate that he will begin to release music under his real name, Abel Tesfaye.
Tesfaye’s alter ego may have released his final album, but he’s not done quite yet. “Hurry Up Tomorrow” is also the name of the upcoming Trey Edward Shults directed thriller, starring The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan.
The film focuses on Tesfaye, who plays a fictionalized version of himself, and a seemingly unhinged love interest (played by Ortega).
Precise details of the plot are being kept under wraps, but we can expect the movie’s release on May 16th, 2025.
On Tuesday, Ortega and Shults made an appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where they not only announced a new trailer, but also introduced a surprise performance by the star of the film himself.
The Weeknd came out to perform two songs from the movie “Cry For Me” and “Open Hearts”, as well as his iconic 2020 hit “Blinding Lights”.
