The Riggs High Library was filled to the brim with family, friends and teammates of one of Pierre’s best basketball players, Lennix DuPris, as she signed her letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Mount Marty for the Lancers. Years ago, DuPris made the decision to transfer from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte to Pierre, a tough decision she says, but the right one for her basketball career. In her time at Pierre, she broke (or came close to breaking) almost every record that came before her. She also scored over 1,000 points as a Governor, and did so in dramatic fashion scoring number 1,000 at the free throw line in a crucial point of their SoDak 16 game against Harrisburg.

Her now former head coach, Kirk Beebout, praised DuPris for her tireless work saying, “Over summer, when others were headed to the lake or to the river, Lennix was headed to the gym to work on her game.” Beebout continued with his appreciation for not only the type of player she was for the Govs, but also the type of student and teammate she was as well.

Her future coach at Mount Marty, Allen Bertram, was also there in support of his future player, but has known Lennix since she was a grade school player. Bertram noted, “10 of our players at Mount Marty personally told me ‘we can’t wait for Lennix to get here’, and that is truly special.”

Lastly, Lennix addressed her supporters, thanking her parents, grandparents and tribe at home, as well as her entire team who was there for the event. DuPris held back tears talking about the fun she had in her career as a Governor, and her excitement to continue her career at the collegiate level.
