The South Dakota Department of Transportation is resuming work this week (April 7, 2025) on polymer deck seals on bridges in Stanley County.
Work begins at the Bad River Bridge in Fort Pierre and will include the replacement of concrete approach slabs, new sidewalk railing on the bridge, grinding and patching of the bridge deck, and the placement of an epoxy deck seal. During the project, two-way traffic will be carried through the work zone with a 10-foot width restriction on the bridge. This is expected to take approximately two months to complete.
The contractor will then move to the structure on U.S. Highway 14/S.D. Highway 63 southwest of Hayes. Work on this structure includes grinding and patching of the bridge deck, and the placement of an epoxy deck seal. During operating hours, traffic will be carried through the work zone with the use of stop and go signing at the bridge. The bridge will have a 14-foot width restriction during construction. This work will take approximately two weeks to complete.
Motorists can expect minor delays in both areas.
The overall completion date for the $2.12 million worth of work on the two bridges is Sept. 5, 2025.
