Pierre softball lost their first game of the 2025 season, falling to Mitchell on the road Tuesday night 9-4. The Kernels took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, before the Lady Governors plated three runs in the second to take a lead.
That slim advantage did not hold for long, as Mitchell responded right away with a two-run home run in their half of the second inning. That shot gave them the lead for good. Pierre got as close as 5-4 later on, but could not hold down the Kernels offense.
Junior McKenzi Flottmeyer got the start in the circle for Pierre, she allowed all of Mitchell’s runs off nine hits and five walks in four innings, but did strikeout three. Senior Noel Kist pitched the rest of the game, putting together two scoreless frames.
Offensively, junior Charlotte Hull drove in two runs with a first inning single. Sophomore Ally Keyes and junior Ailiyah Erickson each picked up an RBI as well in the loss.
The Lady Govs will be back on the diamond on Thursday for their home opener against Yankton. First pitch is 4 p.m. central time, our full coverage of the game begins at 3:30 on River 92.7.
