SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Sioux Falls bowler Chase Campbell had a big night on the lanes during his Thursday night doubles league at the Empire Bowl. Campbell, who grew up in Pierre, rolled games of 298-300-289 for a three-game series of 887, which breaks the all-time record for a sanctioned series bowled in South Dakota. The previous record of 880 was held by Josh Hepp, also of Sioux Falls.
Campbell threw strikes on 33 of 35 full racks, including 22 straight over the second and third games. The 887 set is just 13 pins shy of the maximum achievable score of 900, which has been done several times across the country over the years. It’s worth noting that Sioux Falls is also home to Jeremy Sonnenfeld, who was the first bowler ever to achieve triple perfection, but he accomplished the feat while bowling collegiate at Nebraska in 1997 to set that state’s all-time record.
