The South Dakota Governor’s Residence in Pierre will be getting some updates this summer.
During a meeting of the Capital Complex Beautification and Restoration Commission last week (April 16, 2025), Deputy State Engineer Christine Day said the outside of the home will be refreshed.
Day said they are recommending black roofing with shades of gray for accents.
Committee member and Pierre Mayor Steve Harding said he can’t believe it’s already time to do some improvements.
According to the South Dakota Bureau of Administration, construction of the current Governor’s Residence in Pierre was completed nearly 20 years ago, in June of 2005. Measuring approximately 14,000 square feet, the two-story residence serves as the private residence for governors and their families and as a facility capable of hosting about 100 guests for gubernatorial public events.
