The Buffaloes are making a lot of changes over in Fort Pierre, they are midway through a complete overhaul of the track & field complex along with a brand new football field coming in August as well. Another new addition? Their softball program which played its first ever games hosting Mobridge-Pollock for a doubleheader.
Sunshine quickly turned to cold and windy, as is customary in South Dakota, as Raegan Taylor became the first ever Lady Buff to fire a pitch from the circle. Mobridge would get out to an early 4-0 through the first few innings before finding an offensive rhythm and going onto win game one 15-0.
The Lady Tigers dominance carried into game two with a 21-3 win. Stanley County was the designated road team for the game, which they took advantage of by plating three runs in the top of the first inning. Senior Brylee Kafka led off with a triple, and was driven in on a sacrifice bunt by senior Camryn Norman. With two out in the frame, freshman Timber Hanson delivered a clutch hit to drive in two runs and make it 3-0 Lady Buffaloes.
Stanley County’s only lead of the day did not hold up for long. Mobridge-Pollock scored 13 in their half of the first, and by the end of it worked through the top of their lineup a third time. Lady Tigers walked 12 times in the inning, and saw three different pitchers before making their third out.
Senior pitcher Grace Overland struck out the first two batters of the second inning, and after a pair of walks, Stanley County had a runner thrown out at home on an attempted stolen base that ended the threat. The Lady Tigers poured on five more runs in the bottom half, senior Elsy Larson singled in one, junior Jacy Netterville forced in another on her third walk of the game, two runs scored on groundouts, and another on a wild pitch. Larson was a dominant force in the lineup, tallying three hits in as many at-bats with three runs driven in.
Mobridge will go on the road to take on a winless Aberdeen Central next Tuesday while the Lady Buffs head on the road to take on Chamberlain this afternoon for a 4 PM first pitch
