Lindsey Brown ’02 was a three-sport athlete for the Lady Buffaloes, competing in volleyball, basketball, and golf. It was in golf where she shined, however, becoming a four-year MVP for SC, blazing a trail for future golfers, and establishing herself as the best female golfer in SC school history.
As a freshman in a newly minted golf program, Lindsey established herself immediately as a golfer to watch. In the 1997 season, she shot her first hole in-one and became the first female state tournament qualifier in school history. This set the tone for what was to be an extraordinary golf career.
As a sophomore, Lindsey emerged as one of the state’s best young golfers. She dominated the 1998 campaign, collecting four 1st place finishes, two 2nd place finishes, one 4th place finish, and two 5th place finishes. She topped of the season as the Region runner-up and finished the year in 14th place at the State Golf Tournament.
Lindsey’s junior season was unfortunately hampered by knee surgery, but she returned to form, leading the Lady Buffs again to a 4th place team finish at the State Golf Tournament. In the 1999 season, Lindsey collected three 2 nd place finishes, one 3rd place finish, came in 9th at the Region tournament, and finished 16th at State.
As a senior, Lindsey established herself as one of the best, again leading SC to a 4th place team finish at the State Golf Tournament. The 2001 season saw her win six regular season tournaments and finish as runner-up at two tournaments. Lindsey came in 3rd at the Region Tournament and earned a 9th place finish at the State Tournament.
Lindsey earned academic and leadership awards during her time as a Lady Buffalo too numerous to mention. The 2002 Valedictorian, she was a member of NHS, Honor Band, and was a Regents Scholar. Lindsey shined in the classroom and on the golf course.
Lindsey continued her golf career at SDSU, helping the Jacks transition to D1. In addition to top 20 finishes and being on the Dean’s List for four years, she was a member of the D1 All-Independent Golf Team, D1 All-Academic Team, and the All-American Scholar Golf Team. Lindsey played on the State Farm Collegiate Players Tour, the Junior Golf Tour, and twice played in the National Tournament in Texas.
Lindsey lives in Sioux Falls, works as a pharmacist, and is raising two sons.
