The Pierre School Board has approved (July 9, 2025) a $37.7 million ($37,726,395) budget for the 2025-26 school year.
Business manager Travis Dovre says it’s a small decrease from the proposed 2025-26 budget.
Dovre explains the roughly $124,000 decrease in spending for special education.
Dovre summarizes the Pierre School District’s FY26 budget in two parts.
The proposed FY26 budget also includes:

a 2% pay increase for employees,
-
a 1.1% increase in activity additional duty pay (coaches and advisors), and

an extra $25 toward employee health insurance.

May 14, 2025:
The Pierre School Board is considering a nearly $38 million ($37,850,391) budget for the 2025-26 school year.
Business manager Travis Dovre says it’s a decrease of 3.6% from the 2024-25 budget.
Dovre breaks down where the nearly $38 million comes from.
Because federal COVID dollars that supplemented the cost of school meals are no longer available, Dovre proposed a 25 cent increase in the cost of school breakfast and a 50 cent increase in the cost for school lunch….prompting an observation from Pierre School Board President Joan Adam.
With the exception of the commercial/utilities category, Dovre says the school district’s tax levies could see a slight increase in the next budget.
The proposed FY2026 budget also includes the Pierre School District paying:
-
a 2% pay increase for employees,
-
a 1.1% increase in additional activity duty pay, and
-
an extra $25 toward employee health insurance.
The Pierre School Board will approve a final budget during an upcoming meeting.
