Jenny Goetz was sworn in as the new councilperson for Ward III during Wednesday night’s (May 14th) meeting of the Mobridge City Council.
Goetz defeated Jade Mound in the April election. Mayor Gene Cox had a few parting words for Mound.
Mound’s last order of business before leaving the council was participating in the vote to approve Resolution 25-06, a request to waive a sidewalk requirement on a property at the end of 7th Avenue East.
Mound’s suggestion is included in that resolution.
With the new council called to order, Randy Carlson was elected Council President and Brent Kemnitz was elected Vice President. Council also approved the mayoral appointments.
Water/Sewer
Water and Sewer Superintendent Kurt Schmaltz talked to the council about some concrete that needs replacing.
Council approved the project.
Also for the Water and Sewer Department, council approved:
- pay request #3 to Preload, LLC ($377,828.10) for the water tank and main project;
- pay request #4 to Sentry ($151,979.35) for the water treatment plant project;
- and pay request #2 to Muth Electric ($30,330) for the water treatment plant project.
Parks
Mobridge City Finance Officer Heather Beck talked about a quote for curb, gutter, and sidewalk at the Eastside Play Park.
Council approved that quote.
Fire
Council approved the list of wildland firefighters and pay rates.
Police
For the Police Department, the council approved new police officer hires Michael Volz and Kyle Brown.
Finance
For the Finance Department council approved:
- brown bag permits for the upcoming Masters Walleye and Denny Palmer Fishing Tournaments;
- a building mover’s license, a permit to move a building from the east on Highway 12 to 9th Avenue East, and the return of a deposit for moving a building;
- new hire Killian Warner in the Street Department;
- installing LED lights at the corner of Grand Crossing and 4th at a cost of almost $51,000.00.
- pool rates for 2025;
- adding Dakota Community Bank & Trust as a city depository;

Also at the end of the meeting, in the interest of saving paper and wear-and-tear on printers the council discussed the possibility of using ipads or other similar devices for their council packets, which are several pages in length each month. Finance Officer Beck will look into the options and prices.
