The biggest track & field event of the year kicked off yesterday at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, and the top talent in the state got to showcase their stuff in front of a packed out crowd. This meet always brings out the best in South Dakota track and field, also bringing out the best crowds of the season as well.
It was a good start to the weekend for the Govs, as Kali Ringstmeyer took first place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.93. The Govs women’s 4x100m comprised of Emlyn Swanson, Lennix DuPris, Ringstmeyer and Brooke Hansen took second place with a time of 48.46. The Govs men’s 4×100 relay with Karson Walti, George Rapp, Carter Merrill and Carson Stoeser took third place with a time of 42.72. In the SMR 1600, the Govs men took second with a time 3:28:32 thanks to Stoeser, Carter Schiefelbein, Eladio Simental and Caleb Morris.
In Class B from Philip, Evan Kroetch took second place in the discus throw with a distance of 155-01. Also from Philip, the men’s SMR 1600 team made up of Teagan Gropper, Tyce Gropper, David McKinley and Baylor Burns took first with a time of 3:36:84.
On the women’s side of Class B, Lyman’s Brooke Montgomery took third in the 100m dash with a time of 12.59.
