One of the more polarizing stories of this offseason has been where, and frankly if Aaron Rodgers would be playing football in the NFL next season. We got our answer today as Tom Pelissero reported that the 41-year old veteran QB will be signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pellisero reports that Rodgers is expected to fly to Pittsburg on Friday and sign with the franchise before next week’s minicamp.
Over the past couple weeks, the rumblings of where Rodgers would land favored Pittsburgh after he met with the team on March 28th, a meeting that head coach Mike Tomlin called “productive”. A week after, team president Art Rooney II said things were “pointing in the right direction”. So this should not come as a surprise to most that he will be donning the black and gold in 2025. However, Rodgers didn’t exactly convince anyone that he would even take the field earlier this offseason on Pat McAfee’s show as he made it sound like he wasn’t committed to playing football this upcoming season. Of course, that was pretty par for the course with Aaron Rodgers as he has always operated under secrecy.
While nothing was ever for certain, it seemed that the Steelers seemed confident Rodgers would end up signing with Pittsburgh after the organization waited until the sixth round to draft a quarterback (Ohio State’s Will Howard). Now, should everything go smoothly tomorrow, the Steelers feel they will finally have the piece they have been missing since Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger hung it up.
Rodgers came back after a torn Achilles two seasons ago, and actually posted impressive numbers with the New York Jets, throwing for 28 touchdowns in 2024. Rodgers will be a Hall of Famer when his career wraps up, the question now shifts to what the Steelers receiver room will look like after parting ways with George Pickens in the offseason. In his career, Rodgers has thrown for 62,952 yards, and is one of five quarterbacks to throw for over 500 touchdowns in a career.
