The Twins may have lost the series, but they won the final game of said series which will hopefully give them some momentum going into an off-day today. After losing two close games to start the series (6-4 Friday and 5-4 Saturday), the Twins picked up a much needed win yesterday coming out on top 6-3 thanks to back-to-back bombs in the fourth inning.
The Blue Jays got out in front early with a run in the second, but that was quickly countered by two Twins runs in the bottom half of the inning turning to a little small-ball to get it done. Christian Vazquez drove in a run on a ground ball that turned to a fielders choice, then Trevor Larnach hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the second run giving Minnesota a 2-1 lead. But the lead was short-lived as the Blue Jays answered back with two runs in the third making it 3-2.
In the fourth, Brooks Lee tied it up with a short homerun to right, then Christian Vazquez continued his contribution at the plate with a 395 ft shot to give Minnesota the lead. The Twins would add two more in the fifth and allowed the bullpen to take over. The Twins relievers shut down the Blue Jays offense securing the 6-3 win and salvaging the series before their off-day.
The Twins will be off tonight, but will be back tomorrow night at home welcoming in the Texas Rangers for a 6:40 PM CT start. You can listen to that game and all Twins games all season long on KGFX 1060 AM or 103.1 FM in the Pierre area. The Twins move to 35-30 with the win and still sit in second place in the AL Central.
