Wrapping up Mobridge-Pollock’s first State Softball Tournament

The Mobridge-Pollock softball team suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Alcester-Hudson Cubs on Saturday and took home fourth place honors at their first ever State B Softball Tournament. The Cubs plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of hits and couple of misplays by the Tiger defense. Grace Overland then struck out the last two batters of the inning, and the Tigers settled in a retired the side in order through the fifth inning. Mobridge-Pollock scratched a run across in the fifth inning with the help of some suspect defense from the Cubs. Brooke Merkel scored on a Jacy Netterville ground ball that went through the shortstop’s legs for an error, but Cubs pitcher Emma Moller was able to retire two batters to end the threat. Alcester-Hudson then added an insurance run in the sixth with a leadoff double and follow-up single for the final scoring in the game. Moller limited to the Tigers to just three hits on the game while striking out 11 along the way. The Cubs managed only five hits themselves against Overland, who fanned six. Neither pitcher walked a single batter. Merkel and Netterville registered a hit apiece for MoPo, as did Sophia Overland, who tripled in the second inning, but was left stranded on the bases. The Tigers did go 1-2 on the weekend to take fourth place, but they undoubtedly gained a great deal of respect from the rest of the tournament field where all seven other teams came from the east central and southeast parts of the state. Jacy Netterville and Amber Vetch were named to the All-Tournament Team.

3^rd Place:  Harrisburg 15, SF Lincoln 1
