On a warm summer night out at Hyde Stadium, the Zap looked to even up their four-game series with the Sasquatch in the series many of the players are referring to as the “South Dakota World Series” between the two in-state rivals. The game started with the Sasquatch driving a run across in the top of the first inning, but they would leave runners on and give way to the Zap in the bottom of the first. The Zap came out swinging and scored three runs in the bottom of the first after Connor Goldberg drove in a few on a deep shot to right center.
The Squatch would drive in two more in the third to tie the game at three apiece. More timely hitting by the Zap brought in two more runs in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an Emiliano Curiel base hit with runners on against an 0-2 count. Then, in the fifth, with runners on first and third, the Zap stole second and an errant throw brought in fan-favorite Zap player Naruto Saito to extend the Zap lead.
The Zap would give up two more runs but add insurance in the seventh on their way to a 7-5 victory, evening up the series at one win apiece. AJ Ponciano got the win for the Zap, going 4 IP, and Jackson Cornett picked up the save with some solid pitching in the top of the ninth.
The Zap and Sasquatch will face off again tonight at Hyde Stadium, first pitch is set for 6:05 PM CT. Get your tickets on OaheZap.com, or buy them at the box office.
