The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for much of eastern South Dakota Friday and Saturday (June 20-21, 2025).
People are encouraged to take actions to mitigate impacts from the heat, such as:
- stay hydrated,
- take frequent breaks in air-conditioned rooms away from the sun,
- wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and
- limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours.
Take immediate action if you or someone you are with begin to show signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Symptoms of heat-related illness can include:
- cool, moist skin with goosebumps;
- heavy sweating;
- faintness;
- dizziness;
- extreme fatigue;
- muscle cramps.
Do not leave children or pets in vehicles that are not running and have the air conditioner on.
Don’t forget to be sure pets and outdoor animals have a plentiful supply of CLEAN, fresh water and as much shade as possible.
