Shirley Raue was a beloved and long-time operator of the concessions at Hyde Stadium. With the support of her grandchildren, family, and friends; she built one of the most memorable and well-run concession stands in the entire state of South Dakota.
Shirley originally took over the stand with her signature humor and determination- she often joked that she was doing all the work while her son Scott made all the money. From her famous twice-baked potatoes to the iconic one-pound hot dogs, Shirley’s food became a tradition for many.
Parents often dropped off their children off at the stadium, knowing they would be well-fed and cared for by Shirley. Many families ended the season with hefty concession tabs, a testament to her generosity and love for kids.
Beyond the ballpark, Shirley’s heart for children extended into her work as a daycare owner. Over the years, she helped care for thousands of kids in the Pierre area, touching countless lives with her kindness and dedication.
Since her passing, Shirley has been deeply missed. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many friends who knew and loved her. Her family takes comfort in the promise of seeing her again, made possible through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
The Raue family extends their heartfelt thanks to the board for honoring Shirley with this award. It means more than words can say.
