The month of June was a stain on the season of the Minnesota Twins, to say the least. They had not won a series in a calendar month since they beat a struggling Athletics team three out of four games on June 2nd through the fifth. Over the 4th of July weekend, they finally found themselves on the right side of a series taking two out of three from the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Twins have struggled with a lot of things this season; their offenses has come in waves, they have seen great starts out of their pitching staff but no offense to back it up, they’ve also seen the opposite where their offense delivers but the pitching fails to hold up their end, and above all, the Twins have had a terrible time winning one-run games. Though, this weekend, the Twins won not one but two one-run games against the Rays.
On the 4th, the Twins won 4-3 to take game one of the series, they followed that up with a 6-5 win on Saturday (July 5th), but dropped yesterday’s game 7-5 in extra innings. The Twins and the Rays both scored two runs in the 8th inning to make it 4-4, but a three-run 10th inning made it too much to overcome for Minnesota in the bottom half of the inning. The Twins now sit at 43-37 on the season and currently sit second in the AL Central, 13.5 games out of first place behind the Detroit Tigers.
The Twins will take their series win into an off-day today before welcoming the red-hot Chicago Cubs to town for a three-game series. We will have all these games broadcast on KGFX 1060 AM and 103.1 FM in the Pierre area.
