A 14 year old girl and a 74 year old woman, both from Pierre, were involved in a two-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon (July 7, 2025, at approximately 3pm) at the intersection of Monroe Avenue and Capitol Avenue in Pierre.
Information from the Pierre Police Department says their investigation determined the 14-year-old female was driving a 2006 Suzuki northbound on Monroe Ave. and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Capitol Ave. At the same time, the 74-year-old woman was driving a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan eastbound on Capitol Ave. The teenager saw the Dodge at the last moment and accelerated in an attempt to avoid a collision. The Dodge struck the Suzuki in the driver’s side, rear passenger door causing the girl to lose control of her vehicle. The Suzuki spun and ultimately rolled over onto its roof.
There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
AMR ambulance service was called to the scene, but both drivers refused transport to the hospital for further examination.
The 14-year-old girl was cited for a stop sign violation.
