The Pierre Volunteer Fire Department is holding a training exercise this evening (July 10, 2025) at the South Dakota State Capitol Building in Pierre.
Chief Ian Paul says they’ll start arriving at the Capitol around 6:30pm.
While some aspects of firefighting in the State Capitol can become complicated because of the age of the structure, Paul says many parts of it have been modernized.
Paul says the Capitol presents some unique situations in terms of firefighting, so it’s good for veteran firefighters to get a refresh and for new firefighters to learn how things work.
Again, the Pierre Volunteer Fire Department training at the South Dakota State Capitol Building in Pierre will start around 6:30 CT tonight. If you see a large presence of fire trucks and firefighters at the Capitol, there is no cause for alarm– they are conducting a training drill.
